This is what my contents page looks like once I have finished it, I had taken more images in my free time and made the image on the right a main part of the page and I think when the reader see's this they will be intruiged by whom the person is and convince themselves to carry on reading the piece of text underneath the image.

This is an update of what my finished double page spread looks like, I completely changed the layout of it by adding two images into the background of each side of the page, and continuing with orange colour scheme throughout my magazine I used the colour again on this page.

Research and Planning-Cover Page Update

This is just an update of what my cover page looks like on my magazine, I have also changed the colour of his jacket so the colour fits to an orange colour and I have done this because the rest of my magazine has orange throughout it so I decided to change the colour of it so it continued to fit in with the colour scheme of the magazine.

Evaluation Question 7-Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The magazine has changed drastically from my college magazine to the music magazine that I more recently created. You can see straight away that in the college magazine that I didn't put alot of thought into where things should be positioned, I just put them wherever was easiest but in my music magazine I thought about it alot more and changed things many times before I came out with the final thing but with the college magazine I put the image there the first time and then left it there and didn't bother changing it. I used guidelines to help me on my music magazine, these helped me structure the text and basically make things look much more professional.  Another thing is that the image on the college magazine isn't the main focus, because the size of the image isn't that big and the rest of the text around it is attracting attention to it and this is something that I changed on my music magazine as I made the image much bigger so that is the main attraction and the text isn't.

Also, the text, I have used the same colour text throughout the whole cover of my college magazine and a plain white background. Whereas on the music magazine, I have used orange, black and white text and different sizes of font and also I have left the background in as I thought it would look much better. Another thing is the actual image on the college magazine isn't a very good picture, there is no eye contact and there is activity of other people in the background of the image. But in the music magazine image, I have taken a low angle shot of my model to make him look more superior and this is something that I didn't know much of when I was creating my college magazine so this is something that I used to my advantage.

Contents Page

My contents page on my college magazine is shocking, there isn't any real layout going on as there is just an image placed on the background and white text over it. But on my music magazine contents page there is the image on the right hand side of the page, with the contents of what the magazine will hold down the left hand side of the page and this looks much more professional and neat compared to my college magazine.

On the music magazine again there is the same colour scheme, with orange, black and white used but on the college magazine the colours don't even contrast well, you can't really read some of the text because of the image in the background and the white text and also where the image doesn't fit underneath I have changed the font colour to black so it is easier to read.

The images that I taken for the college magazine were taken simply because I didn't have a lot of time so they were rushed, I simply have a picture of the college which don't relate to the topics on the contents page and here I should have got images of the canteen or something to do with the 'Go Ape' trip which is mentioned on the contents page. The images on the music magazine however I had much longer to take them, so that's why I took the camera home and took much longer editing the picture so it looked better and more professional.

Evaluation Question 6-What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The different technologies that I used for my magazine are: 

Blogger I updated regularly with posts of how I was getting on with my magazine and this is where I uploaded my pictures of my models and also magazine ideas prior to making the magazine.

 I used Flickr to answer questions on how my cover, contents and double page spread and how I would distribute my magazine.

 I used the SLR camera's to take the shots of my models for the different pages of my magazine.

I used Prezi because it is a different way of showing the audience about the fonts colours and other things I used when I was creating my magazine.

 I used Photoshop to actually create my magazine cover, contents and double page spread.

I used In Design to help me create the columns on my double page spread and my contents page so it would be easier to add the text and it would look more professional.

Evaluation Question 4-Who would be the audience for your media product? why?

The target audience for my magazine would be students as there will be a much higher amount that buy music magazines at around the age of 16-19 than any other age. Stereotypically R'n'B music is aimed at males but I have decided to aim my magazine at males and females and this is the reason why I drew this picture as a male. My target audience would most likely shop at shops like Topman, River Island and they would mainly only really watch the music channel as this is their main interest.

Posture
I took the image of my friend in the same style of the image on the right, I made it so it was a low angle of him so it makes him look more arrogant and powerful and like he is looking down on you. Some of the Hip Hop/ RnB artists out there seem to powerful in many ways, like Chris Brown for example influences millions of people with his actions and how he does things so the posture has to make him look powerful which is what he actually is.

Shot type
The shot type that I used while I was taking this image was a medium shot and I chose this particular shot because when I took this image I had the image on the right in mind, so I had to tell him what pose to do and I would do the right shot. Again, because I knew music artists make themselves look powerful when they have there photographs taken so that is the type of shot I went for, to try and make my model look powerful and try to influence other people.

Lighting
I took the image outside so I didn't have to worry about having the flash on/off while I was taking this picture. The lighting outside was perfect for the type of image that I wanted so all I had to do was actually take the picture.

Costume
The costume that my model is wearing looks good with the genre of magazine that I have made. The colours go well with the rest of my magazine and same with the image on the right hand side, the clothes on that image go well with that magazine. The clothing is very simple and is what most people seem to be wearing, just a simple T-shirt or a jacket and some jeans look smart and reflect the R and B genre of music.

Hair
The hair that my model already had was good for the genre of music I was doing anyway, so I didn't have to change his hair style in anyway and as the picture on the right side also has the same hair style as my model. This is the type of hair style that you see regularly and it is a stereotype of what you think someone would look like who listens to this genre of music.

Evaluation Question 1-Double Page Spread

 

Use

My double page spread, I found the top image before hand and liked the layout and believed it look good so that is where I got the idea from and tried to get it to look like the top image as much as possible. First of all, the image that you can see in the background I thought added a professional look to the magazine so the image that I had of my model and I decided to do the same type of image. Another thing that I did was the main piece of text saying 'Scott S' I made it so you could still see the colour through the text and I decided I wanted it to look like that because it's something that you don't normally see on a magazine or anywhere else really so I thought it would look different. The text is also positioned in the same place on all parts of the double page spread, the only things that I have changed is the colour of the text, as I have orange sub-headings and a piece of text in the middle of the page that is only orange as this is the main colour scheme throughout my magazine. I also added more text at the bottom of the page as on the real magazine it doesn't look like there is enough text so that is the only change I made that is to do with the text. The final thing that I used was the main image on the right hand side is the same on my magazine.

Develop

The only things on the double page spread that I developed in some way is the colour scheme on the magazine, I changed the colours of the text to orange and my model is also wearing different coloured clothes to the model on the real magazine. I changed the colours because the rest of my magazine, the contents page and cover page all have orange on them in large parts so I had to add orange somehow onto the double page spread somehow and this was through the colours of the text.

Challenge

There isn't anything on the double page spread that I changed drastically because I origanally liked the design and layout of the real magazine.

Use

The similar things that I have used on my magazine that is on the other magazine is my 'features' title, as I also wanted to include features on my magazine, this could also class as develop slightly as of the position of my features content. I thought it would look better where I have placed it as I can add more information underneath it and the image next to it. Another thing that I have used the same is where I have put 'contents' in the exact same fashion of other Vibe magazines. Another example of where I have used something is where I have put 'fashion' and this heading is only really used on other Vibe magazines and I wanted to use it because I thought it would be something different to put in my magazine.

Develop

The things that I have developed on my magazine is the clothes, as it is similar to that is on the Vibe magazine as they are both wearing a jacket and a simple T-shirt underneath. Another thing that I have used is the sub-headings on the side of the page, I seen this previously on the Vibe magazine contents page and thought it makes it look much more clear of what I am trying to write about the contents page. But I also think the contents page sub-headings on my magazine look much clearer and easier to understand than on the actual Vibe magazine.

Challenge

The things that I have done completely different on my magazine compared to the real Vibe magazine contents page is underneath the main image on the page I have added a piece of text, which is basically there to describe who the image is of and what he has to do with music and what his goals are in the music industry. Another thing that I have challenged is that I have added sub-headings on the contents part of the page and then a small piece of information describing what the page in the magazine will be about and I think this just makes it clearer to the reader what theye are going to be reading about on each page inside the magazine.

Evaluation Question 1-In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I will be talking about how I used, developed and challenged different aspects of my magazine and how it compares to a similar magazine.

Use
The first thing that I used that is the same is the text that has been placed behind the models head, the reason that I have done this is because it makes the model stand out more and make them look more important. Another thing that I have used the same as the other magazine is the main piece of text which is the name, like 'Scott Storch' or 'Chris Brown' for example I have used bigger text and used white text so it stands out on the background. One of the other things that I have used the same is the text down the right hand side of my magazine which is going on about all the different things that may be involved inside the magazine.

Develop
The places that it has started to look different is the colour of the main title of text, as mine is in orange as I think this colour goes better with the colour background I have used. Another thing is the clothes on my model look similar to what it does on the Vibe magazine cover but it is slightly different in which the model is wearing it. The thing where I have developed it more is where I have added a caption at the bottom of the page.

Challenge 
There are not many challenges but the few that I have used, one of them being the small '+' that I have put above some of the artists I have included on the right hand side. Another place in which I have challenged the other magazine is at the top of my magazine page where I have put more artists above my title as I seen this off a different magazine and I though it would look good on my magazine.

These are just a few more images that I took for my contents page, I took them because previously the images that I had for my contents page were of a poor quality and I think these pictures look much better and suit the magazine more.

This is a final update for my cover page, I added some more text at the bottom of the page as there was a big gap with nothing there that I thought needed to be filled.

For this update you can see I changed a few things like where the barcode was and also changed some things with the text, at the top of the page I made it to the artists names alternate from the colour white to black and I added more text around the models head where there were big blank spaces and I also changed the colour of where it says 'Exclusive' because I think it now suits my magazine better.

These are more images that I have taken near an alley, although you can't really tell I took it here because this is an area that you typically think of when thinking of Hip Hop music outside. These pictures that I have taken will be used on my cover page of my magazine, and I will also use one of the other images on the double page spread of my magazine.

These 3 images that I found on the internet and printed out, because I was unclear of what pose I wanted my model to do so I researched it and found different looks. So now when I next taking images of my model I will show him these images so it is clear to him what exactly he needs to do.

This is just a small update as i'm going to retake some of my pictures again over the next couple of days as I want my magazine to look as best as possible.

This is the double page spread that I used to help me design my double page spread, except mine is based on a male and this is a female and I will obviously change things like the colours and have my own images ready to put onto the magazine, and I will also probably add more text underneath and more detailed as I feel as if these answers on the page are a bit brief.
