For my double page spread, I am wanting to do an interview of the artist on one side of the page, an image of the artist on the other side of the page. Or maybe a collage of images above and the interview below it as it may look different and stand out more.

These are some photographs that I taken for my model head shots, I may be able to use some of the on the cover of my magazine, like the final image or maybe the second one but I don't think I will be able to use any of the others as the third image she isn't making eye contact at all and the first image I could maybe use that on my double page spread as it looks like he is looking forward into his future maybe?

These are just a few examples of some of the hair styles that match my genre of music. As you can see they are quite similar as both hair styles are straight, the only difference is that one is shorter than the other.

Through all the magazines I looked at related to my genre of music, Vibe magazine seems to match what I want my magazine to look like the most. The bright colours make everything stand out and the big image on the front entices you and makes you want to read it.

This is my cover, contents and double page spread draft that I had to draw. I did this so when I come to actually designing my magazine I would have an idea of the layout, the colour and also where abouts the text would be placed.

Research and Planning: Plan for this week

For this week, I aim to complete my cover page, contents and double page spread hand drawn draft and talk about the colours I will be using and the positioning of the text and also the images.

Research and Planning - Possible background locations/colour backgrounds

This is a plain black background that I think I could use, black is really simple and I think works well with my music magazine.

 

This is another example of a background I could have, I could super impose a background onto to to make it look more better.

This is a background that I could use, this is in Hyde park and I believe it could be a very suitable place to shoot a picture.

Research and Planning-SLR Camera Shots

 This is where I took a medium close up, I made sure the lighting effected this photograph. I made sure there was a white background because I believe it looks much better and much more professional.

 This was a mid-shot that I used, I used this because I wanted to try out different angles and different shots completely. I used the flash on the camera here which I think, when indoors makes the images look much better.

 

 This is a picture that I took outside, I took it outside because I wanted to see what the camera would look like outside. I took a medium close up here with the flash on, even though it wasn't needed.

This was the final image that I taken, this was medium shot, I wanted to include the background in the image to see what it would look like.

Research and Planning: Genre Posts

The genre that i am doing is 'Hip Hop' and some artists that i would associate with this genre are people like Example, Tinie Tempah. These are just a few examples of people which produce the same genre of music that i have chosen.

 

These images of Example and Tinie Tempah are great examples of the look that my models will have. As these two here are wearing quite casual clothes, with just a jacket and a T-shirt. Also, Tinie Tempah is also wearing glasses which i think looks good on him and suits his genre of music. The genre of music that i have chosen must have not a happy or sad side to the look of the cover, but they must have a serious side as this reflects the genre of music that i am doing.

The mise-en-scene that i will be associating with my genre, first of all is the lighting, i think it must be quite dark as the reflects my genre of music.

Research and Planning: Double page spread analysis

 

This double page spread is taken from 'Vibe' magazine and i have chosen to take it from this magazine because this magazine relates to the music magazine that i will be making.

The genre of this double page spread is 'Hip Hop'/'R and B' and we can tell this because Usher, who is the person on the left sings this particular type of music. There is really on one image on the page, i like this because it makes you concentrate on Usher and see the attitude that he has.

The target audience for this double page is again the Hip Hop/ R and B audience. The image is quite laid back and not in your face, which i beleive what this type of music is like. The target audience would be teenagers to early adults as not many people older than that would like to listen to this type of music due to the lyrics and the dancing that is involved, some people just generally do not prefer this type of music and prefer other types of music. Both males and females like this type of music as females are usually more attracted to these type of people and males prefer these type of artists as they envy them and want to be like them and also enjoy their type of music.

The layout of this double page spread is just like most of the other Vibe magazine double page spreads. It is very simple, but i beleive very effective and this is what i am trying to get across when i create my double page spread. With one big image on the left of Usher and then text on the right hand page, as i said it's very simple and i think this is good as it doesn't distract the reader with too many things going on like some other magazines have.

This image represents and i think gives off a very calm and relaxed image and feeling. The fact that Usher is smoking a cigar also gives off this feeling. Another way you can tell that the feeling of this double page spread is relaxes is off the body language of Usher, he isn't stood up or in your face, he is sat back and looking in the other direction. Also, the colours on the page used are very basic and again this shows the calm feeling you would get from reading this double page spread. As many colours all over the page would give off a very different feeling, maybe much crazier like a rock magazine would use this, but much more basic colours like grey, white and black text is used gives off the calm and relaxes feeling.

The shot that has been used on this double page spread is a medium shot, i think this is very effective because it shows what Usher is like and his attitude. The cigar in his head could show that he is extremely wealthy, as cigar cost much more than normal cigarettes. Also, the huge watch that he is used also shows again that he is extremely wealthy. Also, the text at the top right of the page that Usher is on, the word 'greatest' has been boldened. I think that this is what he strives to be and it also draws more attention to it. Also, the fact that Usher is looking away from the page could mean that he has something bigger on his mind and that he is bigger than other people, this shows his superiority of the image and the big watch and cigar also show that he has things would most people would like but can't have.
